The kitchen is easier to know what you need for a new renter because a lot of of your appliances -- like the oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher -- come with your apartment. You only really need a table and chairs for the dining area, but make sure it seats at least four. Even if you live in a studio apartment, it’s nice to have room for a meal with friends or family.

Essentials:

• Dining room table and chairs (for 

• Silverware, plates, and glasses (4 place settings)

• Mugs

• Can opener, spatula, kitchen scissors

• Microwave-if not provided

• A basic frying pan or skillet

• A baking sheet

• A sharp chef knife

• Pot for boiling water

• Oven mitts

Also Nice:

• Shelves or a buffet for extra dishes

• Coffee pot

• Salt, pepper, and other spices

• Dish soap and scrub brush

• Storage containers

• Corkscrew, apple corer, and other cooking gadgets

• A knife set with stand

The bathroom won’t need too much, as the bath tub, sinks, toilets, and medicine cabinets are built in. If you’re stocking a guest bathroom, all you really need is toilet paper, soap, and a hand towel. There are only a few essentials needed in your main or master bath but not as many as in other rooms.

• Toilet paper

• Soap

• Toothpaste, toothbrush, and other individual sundries

• Shampoo

• Large bath and small hand towels

• Shower liner, curtain, and hooks
